“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.” – Vince Lombardi
Good morning peeps, meditation done.
Quote for the Day:
“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.”
Vince Lombardi is quite possibly one of the most quoted coaches of all time.
Visit any sports stadium and you will often see his quotes written on the wall and many coaches use his quotes to inspire their players to put in more effort as it often this that is the difference between winning and losing.
It is the same in business Vince Lombardi’s quotes are often used as a motivational tool in business as well.
Vince Lombardi was an American football player, coach, and executive in the National Football League (NFL).
He is best known as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960s, where he led the team to three straight and five total NFL Championships in seven years, in addition to winning the first two Super Bowls following the 1966 and1967 NFL seasons.
Lombardi is considered by many to be one of the best and most successful coaches in professional football history.
The NFL’s Super Bowl trophy is named in his honour. He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971, the year after his death.
I first heard of Vince Lombardi when reading Sir Alex Ferguson’s first Autobiography in 1999 after he had won the Treble and from then on I would hear Vince Lombard’s name and his book ‘Run to Daylight. Referenced to again and again by the most successful sports coaches especially football coaches.
So a few years ago I read ‘Run to Daylight’.
I have always love his quotes and use them all the time to motivate others and myself and his book definitely did not disappoint.
‘Run to Daylight’ is Vince Lombardi’s own diary of a week at the helm of the Green Bay Packers. Together with legendary sports-journalist, W.C. Heinz, Lombardi takes us from the first review of game films on Monday right through the final gun on Sunday afternoon. We see the planning, the plotting, the practice and the pain as forty-plus men come together to form that precision unit that makes for winning football. Lombardi gives us his views on life, the game, coaching, success, family, and the famed Lombardi Sweep.
I could not believe his attention to detail, how hard he worked and how well he knew each and everyone of his players. It literally changed my approach to everything I was doing, made me work even harder and leave no stone unturned.
‘Run to Daylight’ had a massive effect on me and how I work on achieving my own goals, as well as working with other people to help them achieve their goals.
I try and read it once a year and in fact I am probably due a read now as I am reaching a crucial time, which will determine the achievement of my own goals, so I think I will go and dig it out again.
I am determined to succeed in achieving my main goal in life and reading Vince Lombardi’s book one more time could be just the thing to help me over the finishing line.
It is important to leave no stone unturned in your quest for success, build a winning attitude, focus and of course never, ever, ever give up.
Have a thoughtful Thursday peeps
