“Health is the true meaning of wealth” – Steve Agyei
Good morning peeps , meditation done.
Quote for the Day:
“Health is the true meaning of wealth”
It’s funny I have spent the last 20 years concentrating on making everybody else fit and healthy probably at the detriment of my own health and body.
As a personal trainer and yoga teacher you spend your whole day training other people, teaching classes and advising people on what they should eat and how much sleep they should have and then you find yourself too busy to have time to do all the things you need to do to keep yourself in the best health.
If you do this long enough your own body will break down, which is what happened to me by spending the first eight months of last year teaching lots of classes and training my clients as well as doing all the work I needed to do to set up my own business, I found that I did not have enough time to do my full yoga practice, do all the strengthening and stretching, eating as well as get enough rest needed for my body on a daily basis to maintain that schedule for any length of time.
The result was my body and particularly my hip flexors and glutes completely broke down until I wasn’t able to walk let alone teach.
But being off injured and unable to teach for the last four months has given me enough time to do everything I needed to do for my own business and to look after my own health and body. In just under two weeks time I go to Morocco to teach yoga on my first retreat there and will be back teaching and training people all day again for a week in the sun, in a luxurious hotel with delicious food, which will be great. But going forward when I come back I won’t be able to continue doing that on a full time basis and have time to launch my own business, do yoga everyday, go for walks with my dogs and do my strengthening and stretching exercises needed to protect my hip injury, eat healthily and get enough sleep.
After speaking to my specialist at the hospital this week, it became very clear to me that for my own health, wellbeing and body, for the next six months whilst I concentrate on the investment process and all the work that needs to be done to launch my own business I need to remain in the Highlands, where I can have the time to concentrate and focus on everything I need to do for my own health and my own business.
This means writing, researching and working on my business everyday meditating everyday, doing my full yoga practice everyday, going for walks everyday, doing my hip flexor and glute strengthening exercises and stretches everyday, working out with weights and stretching the rest of my body everyday, eating healthy food at regular times, drinking lots of water and getting 8 hours sleep everyday so that my body, mind and wellbeing is in optimum condition to launch my business towards the end of the year.
I find the practicing of yoga everyday really helps me in all aspects of my life.
The more I practice the stronger my breathing becomes and the more control of it I have and the calmer I have become.
The better I fuel my body the better I feel both mentally and physically.
The yoga poses and breathing teach me that if I control my breath I can control my mind. The pain and discomfort I feel in the awkward yoga poses, will go away if I breathe and stay calm. This mirrors situations in life which can seem impossible with no way out, but if you stay calm, focused and breathe then your head clears, the situation does not seem as bad as you first thought and you can see a way forward.
Yoga has taught me to focus my mind and not be distracted by outdoor forces and things that I cannot control.
I have also learnt that I cannot do all the poses or asana, but this is not failure, the point of yoga is not to be able to do all the poses, it is the daily process of trying to achieve them that is important. Because as soon as you have mastered a difficult pose, you will come across another one that you will feel is impossible, when you first start, but if you practice every day it will become a little bit easier as you improve every day.
Together with nutrition and sleeping, this is the basis of my Elysium Way Training System.
The Elysium Way enhances and enriches lives allowing you to reach your full potential physically, mentally and spiritually.
And one of the main components of the Elysium Way is practicing yoga.
