It is one thing writing down all your goals and setting your carefully laid plans; it is another thing actually doing everything that you need to do to achieve them.
In this day and age of Internet technology, I cannot imagine there are many people who do not know what to do to lose weight? If you want to know how to do anything nowadays, most of the information is out there instantly at the touch of a button.
Most people probably know that to lose weight you need to expand more energy i.e. use more calories up than you consume in a day.
Within a healthy, balanced diet, a man needs around 10,500kJ (2,500kcal) a day to maintain his weight. For a woman, that figure is around 8,400kJ (2,000kcal) a day. These values can vary depending on age, metabolism and levels of physical activity, among other things.
To lose 2lbs a week you need to have a daily calorie deficit of 500kcal, which you could do by either expanding 500kcal more a day through exercise by working out, walking, swimming, going for a run, taking a spinning, dance or yoga class or consuming 500kcal less a day through eating less calories or perhaps cutting down or out alcoholic and unhealthy fizzy drinks. This would work out as you saving 3,500 calories a week, which would enable you to lose approximately 2lbs a week.
This would mean by the end of February you could have lost about 14lbs or a stone. These figures are calculation based on an average person and as we all know everybody is different and their bodies work in different ways, but I think you can get the general idea of how you could lose a stone in weight by the end of February.
So in theory now you have all the information, you should all be able to get to your target weight, it really is that simple, right?
Wrong, as I said at the beginning most of you know what you need to do to achieve your goals. The hard bit is actually doing what you need to do, it is one thing to want to do something, and it is another thing actually doing it.
You actually have to go and physically do the exercise, or cut back on the amount of alcohol and unhealthy fizzy drinks you are drinking, not order a take away when you are knackered from a hard day at work and cannot be bothered to go to the shops and cook yourself a healthy meal. At the end of a stressful day a glass of wine or a beer is very appealing so are biscuits, crisps and cakes throughout the day.
So the motto for today as you prepare for the first full working week of 2017 is that it is now time to stop talking about what you are going to do this year and actually do it.
It is time to take action.
