“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” – Oprah Winfrey
Good morning , meditation done.
Quote for the Day:
“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”
On Wednesday a post came up in my Facebook memories,
Saying that I was at No.1 Duke Street in Richmond.
The significance of this was that it was the first time I had sat down with Brent Richards to discuss my vision for my business.
I took a picture of the post and emailed it to Brent saying,
“A year ago today, when we met and you said you thought I should open a club and I said that would be my ultimate dream.
And now a year we are going through the refurbishment and fit out costs.
Brent Richards (MA Dip Arch RIBA FRSA FCSD) is Principal in Transpolis Global Urban Designers & Architects.
He is an award- winning architect, designer and creative strategist and innovation consultant, with extensive experience with a broad range of UK & international sectors.
He is widely published in the field of Glass in Architecture and contemporary building construction and has been involved in numerous collaborative projects over his career.
Brent has a successful track record as an independent pioneer in international glass architecture and all-glass engineering, winning a range of awards, including the international The Dupont Benedictus Award USA ‘outstanding innovation’.
I had met Brent the week before at the monthly Creative Circle meeting held by university friend the very talented photographer and director Christian Banfield. Brent had started the The Design Laboratory/Innovation Centre of Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and had also worked with celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal on the design, development and expansion of his career from the his three Michelin starred restaurant The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire to become a global pioneer of multisensory cooking, foodpairing and flavour encapsulation, by describing his ideas in books, newspaper columns and a TV series.
At the time I was just about to present my MVP – Minimum Viable Product of a health, fitness and wellbeing App to investors, which I had spent a year researching, formulating the idea and finishing the business plan and was excited at being ready to finally present.
Brent had liked the idea, hence us deciding to meet at No 1 in Richmond, but he felt I was doing things the wrong way round. Using Heston and being a celebrity chef as an analogy to me being a celebrity trainer, he said he felt I needed to have the equivalent of my own restaurant i.e my own club, to build my own brand, which the public would buy into and build trust in before launching my own books, online products, writing for newpapers and creating my own TV series.
His argument made perfect sense and he then followed up by saying wouldn’t you like your own club?
“Yes to have my own club is my dream, but that would take loads of money an app as my MVP needs £500k a club would take millions?”
“Yes it would, but people and investors are going to buy into you as a person, your passion, knowledge and experience. Tell me your vision?”
I then proceed to tell Brent my idea of a luxury lifestyle club with the look, feel & exclusivity of a top London members club seamlessly combined with a high concept boutique fitness centre.
We spent the next three hours discussing where would be my ideal location, London, the country, the states or an exotic lsland. By the time I left Brent buzzing with excitement we had planned to create all four over the next five to ten years.
I knew it would take a lot of effort and time to research, formulate the idea and finish the business plan before I would be in a position to present to investors.
A year later after getting up early and working hard all day, everyday, I am finally in that position.
Have a fabulous Friday peeps and a wonderful weekend.
