“The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.” – Vince Lombardi
Good morning , meditation done.
Quote for the Day:
“The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.”
I absolutely love this quote it is in my top five all time favourite quotes and I swear and live my life by it.
Whatever I have done in life, play sport, dance, choreograph, coach, train, yoga, write, speak or in business I have always tried to work harder than anyone else I know.
I am a very driven and competitive person, I always want to win and be the best.
One of the favourite quotes by my friend, childhood hero and Olympic legend Daley Thompson is,
“Second is first place for losers”
There were no silver medals for Daley, he only dealt in gold, with four World records, two Olympic gold medals, three Commonwealth titles and wins in the World and European Championships he is considered by many to be the greatest decathlete of all time.
There is a famous story regarding Daley training on Christmas Day.
One day he told a friend that he would be training on Christmas Day morning as usual and nothing was going to change.
And after Christmas dinner he said he’d be out again doing his usual afternoon session.
Which seemed a bit extreme on Christmas Day, though his friend had to admit Daley always trained that way and the 25th Dec fell on a day that he would normally train on.
And then continued Daley,
“I’ll go out and train a 3rd time!”
His friend was staggered and couldn’t believe his ears?
“Really? Why would you train 3 times on Christmas Day?”
Wonder what his answer was?
“Because NOBODY trains 3 times on Christmas Day, and that’s why I’m Number One”
That was unheard of in those days. But when he explained, I immediately saw the logic. He said that he knew his opponents would take the day off, so that was his opportunity to gain an advantage on them
This Christmas morning just gone I got on my yoga mat and then went in the garage to my gym and did a chest workout before I began indulging myself in the Christmas festivities.
I workout and practice yoga everyday.
Practicing yoga everyday for 10 years has really helped me in all aspects of my own lif
The more I exercise and practice the stronger my breathing becomes and the more control of it I have.
The yoga poses and breathing teach me that if I control my breath I can control my mind. The pain and discomfort I feel in the awkward yoga poses, will go away if I breathe and stay calm. This mirrors situations in life which can seem impossible with no way out, but if you stay calm, focused and breathe then your head clears, the situation does not seem as bad as you first thought and you can see a way forward.
Yoga has taught me to focus my mind and not be distracted by outdoor forces and things that I cannot control.
By practicing headstands and handstands I am able to turn my world upside down and look at it from a different angle, which allows me to see things from other people’s point of view, which again makes me more open in the mind and as a person.
I have also learnt that I cannot do all the poses or asana, but this is not failure, the point of yoga is not to be able to do all the poses, it is the daily process of trying to achieve them that is important. Because as soon as you have mastered a difficult pose, you will come across another one that you will feel is impossible, when you first start, but if you practice every day it will become a little bit easier as you improve every day.
This is the basis of my Elysium Way Training System.
The Elysium Way enhances and enriches lives allowing you to reach your full potential physically, mentally and spiritually.
And one of the main components of the Elysium Way is practicing yoga.
