“The purpose of our lives is to be happy.” – Dalai Lama
Good morning peeps, meditation done.
Quote for the Day:
“The purpose of our lives is to be happy.”
It is very important to remember that the purpose of our lives is to be happy.
I have been talking for the last week about goal setting and writing from the future, where do you want to be in 5 years time?
Having a vision for your life will dictate your action plan so it is very important and your goals need to be very specific and measurable.
But what is really important in life is to know what makes you happy.
Because as the Dalai Lama so wisely says,
“The purpose of our lives is to be happy.”
The purpose of our life is definitely not to be unhappy.
That sounds obvious doesn’t it?
Of course we do not want our lives to be unhappy?
But so many people do live a life that makes them unhappy.
Could you be one of these people?
Do you do a job you do not like?
Are you with a partner you do not love?
Do you spend enough time doing the things you enjoy in life?
Do you spend enough time hanging with your friends?
Do you have enough money?
It’s all very well talking about the future and our 5 Year Vision, but what about now, what about making you happy right now. No one wants to live a life that makes them unhappy that wouldn’t make any sense at all.
So it is very important to add on to your vision and write down what makes you really happy in life?
This will help you identify what you really want. This takes time and thought, but once you have done it your life will be a lot clearer and being happy with your own life and achieving your vision will be a lot simpler than you may imagine.
So I want you to get a pen and a piece of paper, yes I know it’s old school, but actually writing with a pen on to paper rather than a computer, is just so much more intimate and personal.
If you have not got time today, then find time over the weekend.
Go on give it a go.
To help you out here is what I wrote,
What Makes Me Happy:
Walking my dogs, riding my bike, playing, coaching and watching sport – football, cricket, boxing, rugby and athletics, teaching and watching dance, practicing and teaching yoga, doing weights, boxing, massages and meditation.
Wearing nice suits, shirts, jumpers and shoes. Driving a jeep and speeding on the sea in a boat. Travelling and going on holidays, yoga retreats and skiing.
Teaching kids sport and dance, seeing my Godchildren. Going to the theatre, cinema and out for meals with a beautiful woman. Going to the pub and watching sport with my mates. Taking care of my mum and her house and seeing that she is happy.
Watching crime thrillers and listening to music, classical, R ‘n’ B, hip hop , uplifting soulful house, reggae and rock when I am driving late at night on the Motorway. Socialising with friends, going to dinner and house parties. Spending time relaxing in the country, cooking good food, drinking fresh juices and fine wine. Reading, writing and generally unwinding
Once you know what you want in life do not let anyone or anything including yourself stand in the way of you achieving your goals. That includes family, friends and your children, often it’s the ones that are closest to us, that believe they love us the most, that hold us back the most, because they are thinking of themselves and what they want, they are not you and cannot decide for you what you want in life.
It is your life; nobody else’s and you need to choose how you live it, not anyone else.
For me doing yoga everyday makes me really happy.
How about you?

Today’s picture is taken at the Oval cricket ground when I was with my mate ‘Sproggy’ his sister Hayley and my friend Saira at the exact moment that Mike Hussey was caught by Alistair Cook at short leg off the bowling of Graeme Swann. England won the match by 197 runs, to claim a 2–1 series win in the 2009 Ashes. I was truly happy when this picture was taken.
