“You do not need to live like a monk to have a healthy lifestyle” – Steve Agyei
Good morning , meditation done.
Quote for the Day:
“You do not need to live like a monk to have a healthy lifestyle”
Funnily enough ever since I came back from London on the 28th of January I do seem to have been living like a monk.
After a long day full of meetings on the Thursday in the evening I went out with my building team and my good friend Jason Thorp who I was meeting up with to celebrate the wetting of his new born baby Florence Rose and the launch of Walter Presents in America in March.
Walter Presents, which focuses on curated foreign-language drama series and has developed a loyal following amid growing demand for high-end series from around the world, is coming to the U.S. in March.
Walter Presents launched in the U.K. in January 2016 as a venture of Britain’s Channel 4, which owns a majority stake in it, and Global Series Network, which Jason is the MD of, with an advertising-based VOD model that has seen it attract millions of video views as part of Channel 4’s on-demand service All 4.
Over the last few years, whilst I have been setting my own business up, I have seen Jason take Walter Presents from an idea his friend, founder and business partner Walter Iuzzolino had, go through a two yea long hard struggle to raise investment in the UK, eventually provided by Channel 4, launch successfully in the UK and then go through another gruelling and very challenging drive to raise further investment launch in the states. So I truly know what an achievement this has been and we celebrated the states launch and baby Florence Rose with gusto.
The next day I woke with a massive hangover and felt ill all day, and after the journey back to Scotland on the sleeper train I felt even worse. On top of that when I finally got back to Cromarty my leg and hip was killing me and my injury recovery seemed to have gone backwards as I think I may have had a little dance when we were out, which was definitely not a good idea in the circumstances.
When people have a hangover they often say I am never going to drink again, but I decided I was not going to drink for the month I was back in Cromarty as I really want to focus on finishing my financial plans and the raising of the seed funding, which is so key to the success of my own business. I know my brain needs to be fully alert, I need plenty of energy for all the hard work that is involved and I need to fully recover from my injury for all the physical work, which will be involved in the promoting and marketing my business from the summer onwards and when we launch in October.
I will allow myself a celebratory drink and meal with my partners when I achieve my goal for February.
It is important to live a balanced life, making sure you exercise, work hard and eat healthfully on a daily basis, but that you also relax, unwind and enjoy yourself on a regular basis and give yourself rewards when you have achieved a goal, I believe it is very important to celebrate your achievements as an individual and as a team.
I like to live by the mantra of ‘work hard, play hard’ and believe it is this balance that keeps one young in body, mind and spirit.
And as part of this mantra, I believe the practicing of yoga everyday for the last ten years has really helped me in all aspects of my life and not just my health.
The more I exercise and practice the stronger my breathing becomes and the more control of it I have.
The yoga poses and breathing teach me that if I control my breath I can control my mind. The pain and discomfort I feel in the awkward yoga poses, will go away if I breathe and stay calm. This mirrors situations in life which can seem impossible with no way out, but if you stay calm, focused and breathe then your head clears, the situation does not seem as bad as you first thought and you can see a way forward.
Yoga has taught me to focus my mind and not be distracted by outdoor forces and things that I cannot control.
By practicing headstands and handstands I am able to turn my world upside down and look at it from a different angle, which allows me to see things from other people’s point of view, which again makes me more open in the mind and as a person.
I have also learnt that I cannot do all the poses or asana, but this is not failure, the point of yoga is not to be able to do all the poses, it is the daily process of trying to achieve them that is important. Because as soon as you have mastered a difficult pose, you will come across another one that you will feel is impossible, when you first start, but if you practice every day it will become a little bit easier as you improve every day.
This is the basis of my Elysium Way Training System.
The Elysium Way enhances and enriches lives allowing you to reach your full potential physically, mentally and spiritually.
And one of the main components of the Elysium Way is practicing yoga.
