“Whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do it well; whatever I have devoted myself to, I have devoted myself completely; in great aims and in small I have always thoroughly been in earnest.” – Charles Dickens
Good morning peeps, meditation done.
Quote for the Day:
“Whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do it well; whatever I have devoted myself to, I have devoted myself completely; in great aims and in small I have always thoroughly been in earnest.”
Well that’s it, it’s the last day of the year and I am all prepared and geared up to have the best year of my life in 2017.
I have spent the last two days thinking through, planning and writing my goals for 2017.
I have been doing this process since New Years Eve 2011 and I would like to think I have got better at it each year, as I have gained more knowledge and experience so that my goals have become more specific and easily measurable.
When I first moved up to the Highlands in 2011 to look after and help sort out a problem that had arisen for my mother in Cromarty. I had left behind a very successful production company that had turned over just under £1 million in it’s final year, a long list of celebrity clients and high achievers from my Bespoke Personal Training and Yoga business, my girlfriend, all my closest friends and a beautiful flat in West London.
It was a lot to give up, a huge sacrifice and a complete culture shock, never the less I threw myself into life in a small fishing village with less than 900 people and got involved with the local football team, fire brigade, setting up Kool Kidz Kamp to teach children sport, dance, drama and singing with opera singer and fellow ex ballet dancer Tony Henry an old friend from London who also bizarrely lives up here in the Highlands and teaching yoga and Bootylicious to the local women in the Village Hall.
My friend Joel Laryea found me and said I should get into online fitness and study the work of Craig Ballantyne and Brian Tracy, which I did and I have worked closely with Craig ever since and been over to the States to study with him a few times since. It is a combination of Craig and Brian’s goal setting methods, which I use and each year I religiously do both of their goal setting plans. The outcome is generally the same and their methods are similar, but with slight variations and questions which bring up different and interesting answers.
For instance when filling in Brian Tracey Strategic Goals For Success this year I came to question 5.
5. What are your three most important goals in regards to education, personal, and professional development?
Last year I had written,
- I want to go on a yoga teacher – training course with Kino MacGregor
- I want to attend Fitness Business Summit with Bedros Keullian
- I want to attend Unleash The Power Within with Tony Robbins
For various reasons I was unable to attend all three of these, so I thought okay I will make sure I do them this year. So I checked the dates for the 200-hour Ashtanga Intensive with Kino MacGregor and her husband Tim Feldmann in Miami from July 5th to August 4th and put them in my diary.
But when I checked the dates for the Fitness Business Summit in San Diego it was from 24th to the 26th of March, which is when I am teaching my first yoga retreat in Morocco. I was gutted, but then I thought to myself okay,
“Everything happens for a reason.”
What part of my professional development would be the most useful for helping me to achieve my number one goal of launching my own lifestyle club?
I looked up a fitness and leisure management course and found one that was perfect for my needs and became excited at the thought of starting it and how useful and important it would be in helping me achieve my number one goal.
I thought to myself if I hadn’t taken the time to fill in Brian Tracey Strategic Goals For Success I would not have discovered this exciting opportunity.
Another goal I have for 2017 is to write a lifestyle, fitness and yoga column for a local and national paper or magazine like the Sunday Times Style magazine, which would be my dream and featured another one of my inspirations AA Gill, who like so many other legends this year was taken away from us far too early in 2016.
I found a freelance journalist course with the British College of Journalism, which again I am very excited about and cannot wait to start.
So now I am all set up for 2017 my goals are all written and my year all planned and my diary is already looking pretty full, with a lot of exciting things to look forward to. But as I stated at the beginning, today is the last day of 2016 and I am not going to rest on my laurels I have a Lululemon 10 year Goals and Vision worksheet, which I discovered and did last year to fill in and by going 10 years into the future as opposed to 5 years, I wonder what else this will conjure up, that I have not already thought of?
And finally last night I signed up for Brian Tracy’s 14 Day Goal Setting Challenge, which I will begin today to really push myself for the next two weeks and give myself a real kick start going into 2017.
I will leave no stone unturned to make sure I achieve my goals and as gutted as I am not to be able to fly out to San Diego in March for the Fitness Business Summit and learn from, rub shoulders and reconnect with the world’s best in the fitness industry plus spend time with the friends I have made on the other side of the pond and from all around the world, I am feeling blessed by the other unexpected opportunities teaching my yoga retreat in Morocco has thrown up.
As I always say,
“Everything happens for a reason.”
